European Philanthropy at the Nexus of Disability and the SDGs

This publication, jointly elaborated by Fundación ONCE and the European Foundation Centre, focused on how the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals are serving as a framework for foundations to develop their action on disability inclusion. The publication includes key reflections on this topic as well as examples and testimonies of eleven relevant foundations from nine countries -France, UK, Italy, Spain, Austria, Ireland, Netherlands, Turkey and Georgia. The publication has been developed in the framework of Disability Hub Europe, an initiative led by Fundación ONCE with the co-funding of the European Social Fund.

Individual Giving and Philanthropy in Turkey 2021

This study is a continuation of the research on individual giving and philanthropy in Turkey conducted in 2004, 2015 and 2019 by TÜSEV. The main goals of this research are to provide an overview of: individuals' perceptions of civil society organisations in Turkey; their engagement with CSOs; giving practices, and to track behaviors and trends in these areas through time. For this study as for previous ones, the authors and research team have collected and analysed data from interviews with a representative sample of the voting-age population in Turkey. The fieldwork for this report focused on the year before October-November 2021, a period of significant challenges including Covid-19, lockdowns and natural disasters. The authors take into account the impact of these events in their evaluation of how both the giving behavior and the attitude toward civil society and philanthropic activities in general have developed and changed. 1.5-Degree Lifestyles: Towards A Fair Consumption Space for All

This report uses a science-based approach to link concrete changes in lifestyles to measurable impacts on climate change in order to achieve the 1.5-degree aspirational target of the Paris Agreement on climate change. The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Gender Equality: Problems and Solutions : Meeting Final Report

The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened the current social problems and intensified inequalities, having destructive effects in terms of women's rights and gender equality. This meeting report reflects exchanges between 29 organizations working in the field of gender equality, in order to share the concerns about women and girls.In the first part of the meeting which started with the opening speech of the Chair of Sabancı Foundation Board of Trustees Güler Sabancı, field observations and foresights about the pandemic's effects in terms of gender equality in the world and Turkey were shared. In the second part of the meeting, solution and suggestions for collaborations were discussed in three break-out sessions: "Violence", "Economy, Employment, Entrepreneurship" and "Gender Equality, Education, Participation".

Third Sector Foundation of Turkey (TUSEV) published the Monitoring Matrix on Enabling Environment for Civil Society Development Turkey Country Report 2017, prepared in line with the Monitoring Matrix methodology. Developed under the Monitoring Enabling Environment for Civil Society Development Project coordinated by Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) through 2012 and 2016, the Monitoring Matrix Methodology analyses the state of civil society in terms of Basic Legal Guarantees of Freedoms, CSO Financial Viability and Sustainability, and Government-CSO Relationship.

Global Civic Activism in Flux

Civil society around the world is in flux. New forms of civic activism have taken shape, ranging from protest movements to community-level forums and online campaigns by individual activists.This analysis charts how civic activism is evolving across 8 countries: Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine.These case studies reveal crosscutting themes relevant to the future of civil society support. While there is a global wave of new protests and innovative citizen movements, many civic struggles are increasingly rooted in specific national issues. New and older forms of civic activism coexist and intertwine in a variety of ways. Some new activism is highly political and confrontational; some is very practical and pragmatic about trying to circumvent the shortcomings of mainstream politics. New civic activism includes groups espousing an increasingly wide range of ideological positions. While the new activism has been effective on some specific issues, it is mostly struggling to hold at bay resurgent authoritarian and illiberal government responses.

Fixing Food : Towards a More Sustainable Food System

Fixing Food is an Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) report on food system sustainability globally, spanning agriculture, nutrition, and food loss and waste. It draws on an interview programme with experts from the academic, public and private sectors and is published alongside the Food Sustainability Index (FSI), a quantitative and qualitative benchmarking model, which ranks 25 countries according to their food system sustainability. The project was developed with the Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition (BCFN).

Breaking Down Grant Making Silos: Disability as a Cross-Programme Initiative

Increasingly, foundations talk about ways of breaking down silos in their grant making approaches in order to step away from the single-issue focus to improve effectiveness and to achieve long lasting solutions to deep rooted problems. In this framework, the effort of many foundations that are taking action to breaking down those silos by developing joint grants across different priority areas is remarkable. This publication's main aim is to communicate these greatest efforts to provide a source of reflection and inspiration for foundations. Since we are working in a systemic framework, it would be ineffective to address disability without acknowledging its relationships with gender equality, education, employment, ageing, research, cooperation and development.This booklet aims also to demonstrate through a solution-based approach, the broadness of foundational programs in the field of disability that also have a clear focus on social innovation. The best practices showcased show how foundations consider disability a cross-cutting and inclusive issue, integrating it into programs that reach out not only persons with disabilities but connect them with very different fields of civil society. This practical tool can serve as an inspiration for other foundations to act taking into consideration the cross-cutting approach.
